I now encounter the same problem after updating my version of mpich.

The solution was to edit /usr/local/bin/mpirun, replacing all the path  
names that point into /opt/local/var/... by paths that point into /opt/ 
local.  That is, replace all paths that look like

	/opt/local/var/.../opt/local/X

by

	/opt/local/X

In the commandline above there is a '-DCCODE' missing, plus the flags 
for the linker to find the necessary external libraries.

But why are you trying to build the hdf5_merge utility program manually 
anyways ? Cactus provides a makefile target for this very purpose, you 
would simply say:

   make <configuration>-utils

Hi.

This is more a Mac question than a Cactus one, but anyway ...

My new laptop runs Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). When I compile a Cactus 
executable & try to run it, it triggers a dialog from the Mac's 
Firewall, of the form:

'Do you want the application "cactus_vanilla" to accept incoming network 
connections'?

Now this doesn't affect the running of the executable at all -- 
frequently for a test run, it's successfully finished before I even have 
a chance to react to the dialog; but it's irritating, and seems like it 
should be unnecessary. Does anyone know how to prevent this? I know I 
can add the specific executable to the Firewall's "Allow" list (or even 
its "Deny" list, since as noted above, the executable doesn't need 
access to the network.), but I'd have to do this each time I recompiled.

Any insight appreciated,

I don't see such a message, and I never did.

I'm using MPICH (not OpenMPI); maybe there is a difference.  Doesn't  
OpenMPI start a daemon in the beginning?

used to be the case that thorns in the thornlist which could not be
found in the CVS repositories were skipped, but now GetCactus aborts
with an error.  I have several thorns in my thornlist which are not
available by CVS or SVN (e.g. from darcs and git), so they are not
found.  How do other people deal with this?

I invented a pseudo-notation for darcs and git which are not supported  
by GetCactus.  I'm afraid that I didn't use GetCactus myself, so I may  
have used a syntax that makes it trip.  Maybe commenting out these  
pseudo repository descriptions would help?

Personally, I use the simulation factory.  I check out thorns once  
onto a single machine (my laptop, could also be a workstation), and  
then use the simulation factory to rsync the source tree to other  
machines.  This has several advantages -- the other machines don't  
need to have all the repository software installed, they don't need to  
know the passwords, and they automatically have my local changes.  It  
usually takes less than 30 seconds to rsync, unless the other machine  
has an antique file system.

I am using my own thornlist, so I don't have these entries.  GetCactus
used to ignore thorns it couldn't access, but now it aborts.  For thorns
which are not hosted in VCS systems understood by GetCactus, this means
I cannot use the system in this way.

Yes, I do a similar thing.  I construct the Cactus tree on my
workstation/laptop and then rsync to the cluster.  It is in the
construction of the Cactus tree that I think things could be improved.
I would like to use my thornlist and GetCactus to do this, as I don't
know of another supported method.

So, to rephrase my original email:

* Has someone modified GetCactus so that it now aborts when a thorn
cannot be checked out?  Was this deliberate?

* Could we have a "dummy" specification which says to GetCactus not to
attempt to download these thorns?

* Is it possible/meaningful to add darcs/git repositories to thornlists
for GetCactus to download them?

Apparently something has changed recently, maybe when support for SVN 
repositories was put in. I don't think it was deliberate though.

Attached is a modified version of the GetCactus script which would warn 
the user if a thorn couldn't be checked out or updated but would then 
continue with the next one. Is this what you would like to have ?

So far I had checked out / updated git repositories manually because 
they have a different structure than CVS/SVN repositories.

It should not do that.  After having problems with thorns with many  
parameters, Steve White went through this thorn and ensured that all  
string operations are correct and don't overrun buffers.  As far as I  
know this thorn is correct.

Hi Steven,

I reimplemented HTTPD in C++ so especially the string handling should be 
much more robust and efficient. The new thorn is called HTTPS and is 
available via anonymous SVN:

Yes, but it gives the following error when it gets to Carpet::

svn: 'Carpet/Carpet' is not a working copy

 Could not figure out Subversion URL for Carpet/Carpet (svn  info
Carpet/Carpet)

If I put Carpet first, before any of the SVN thorns, it says:

 No CVS files for Carpet/Carpet

so it seems to be doing what the old version did, unless I have made a
mistake somewhere.

Yes - there would be no way to ask for a particular thorn only, as you
can only request commits, not particular directories.

Up to now I just commented them from the list for the checkout.

What do you think of the attached version. With this, you can specify

!REPOSITORY_TYPE ignore

before anything you would like to ignore. It is only a hack, but
so is most of the script anyway.

Subject: [Users] AEI Subversion servers down on Friday, November 7

Dear users,

	the Subversion servers at AEI (svn.aei.mpg.de and svn.whiskycode.org)  
will be moved to a new virtual environment. This will cause a downtime  
on Friday, November 7. The servers are expected to be up again the  
following day.
